SINGAPORE – With National Day festivities in full swing, local food and beverage businesses are also busy dishing out creative eats with a Singapore spin. Think bak kut teh pasta, black pepper crab pie and a chendol-inspired pastry “bowl” complete with red bean and green jelly strips. Collaborative products in the spotlight include an egg tart ice cream, which is the brainchild of home-grown businesses egg tart specialist Tong Heng and ice cream chain Creamier. There are also kopi- and kaya-inspired doughnuts from local establishment Ya Kun Kaya Toast and Japanese doughnut chain Mister Donut. Here are eight of the best eats to feast on as you celebrate the nation’s 59th birthday.
